Arabic hadith textعن معاوية رضي الله عنه قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: «إنك إن اتَّبَعْتَ عَوْرَاتِ المسلمين أفْسَدْتَهُم، أو كِدْتَ أن تُفْسِدَهُم».
English translationMu‘āwiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If you pursue the faults of the Muslims, you will surely corrupt them, or you will nearly corrupt them.”
ExplanationExplanation of the hadith
Indeed, if you pursue the faults of the Muslims by spying on them, searching for their deficiencies, digging up their faults that they conceal, and publicly expose them, you will be disgracing them and removing their covering. By doing so, people will no longer feel ashamed to commit similar sins openly after they used to do them secretly with nobody knowing about them except Allah, the Almighty.
