Wealth avails nothing

His wealth and gains will not benefit him.

Al-Masad 111:1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ تَبَّتْ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ

May the hands of Abu Lahab[1] perish, and may he perish!

Al-Masad 111:2

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ

Neither his wealth nor his worldly gains will avail him.

Fire and firewood

He and his wife are warned of blazing fire.

Al-Masad 111:3

سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ

He will burn in a Flaming Fire,

Al-Masad 111:4

وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ

and so will his wife[2], the carrier of firewood,

Al-Masad 111:5

فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ

around her neck will be a rope of palm fiber[3].
