44 verses 1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
English translationA challenger asked for a punishment bound to come[1]
70:1QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
2لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
English translationupon the disbelievers, which none can avert,
70:2QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
3مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
English translationfrom Allah, Lord of the pathways of ascent,
70:3QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
4تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
English translationby which the angels and the Spirit[2] will ascend to Him on a Day[3] the length of which is fifty thousand years.

5فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
English translationSo be patient [O Prophet] with beautiful patience.

6إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
English translationIndeed, they see this [punishment] far off,
70:6QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
7وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
English translationbut We see it to be close at hand.

8يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
English translationOn the Day when the sky will be like molten brass[4]
70:8QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
9وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
English translationand the mountains will be like dyed wool[5],
70:9QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
10وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
English translationand no close friend will ask about another,
70:10QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
English translationeven though they will see one another. The wicked will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by offering his children,

12وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
English translationand his wife and his brother,
70:12QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
13وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
English translationand his kindred who stood by him,
70:13QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
14وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
English translationand everyone on earth, just to save himself.
70:14QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
15كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
English translationBy no means![6] It is a raging Flame,
70:15QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
16نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
English translationthat will strip off the scalps[7].
70:16QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
17تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
English translationIt will call everyone who turned their backs and disobeyed,
70:17QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
18وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
English translationand amassed and hoarded wealth.
70:18QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
19إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
English translationIndeed, man was created impatient:
70:19QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
20إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
English translationwhen evil befalls him, he bewails,
70:20QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
21وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
English translationbut when good fortune comes his way, he becomes tight-fisted –
70:21QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
22إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
English translationexcept those who pray,
70:22QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
23ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
English translationwho are steadfast in their prayers;
70:23QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
24وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
English translationand who give a due share[8] of their wealth
70:24QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
25لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
English translationto the beggar and the dispossessed;
70:25QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
26وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
English translationand who firmly believe in the Day of Judgment;
70:26QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
27وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
English translationand those who fear the punishment of their Lord –
70:27QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
28إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
English translationfor none can feel secure from their Lord’s punishment –
70:28QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
29وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
English translationand those who guard their private parts[9],
70:29QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
30إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
English translationexcept from their wives or bondwomen[10] whom they own, for then they are not to be blamed.
70:30QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
31فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
English translationBut whoever seeks beyond that, it is they who are the transgressors.

32وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
English translationand those who fulfill their trusts and pledges;
70:32QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
33وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
English translationand who are upright in their testimonies;
70:33QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
34وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
English translationand who take due care of their prayers;
70:34QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
35أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
English translationthey will be honored in gardens[11].
70:35QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
36فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
English translationWhat is the matter with the disbelievers that they are rushing towards you [O Prophet][12],
70:36QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
37عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
English translationfrom the right and from the left, in crowds[13]?
70:37QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
38أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
English translationDoes everyone of them aspire to enter a garden of bliss?
70:38QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
39كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
English translationBy no means! We have created them from what they know[14].
70:39QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
40فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
English translationI swear by the Lord of the sunrises and sunsets[15] that We are surely Capable
70:40QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
41عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
English translationto replace them with others better than them, and none can escape Our decree.
70:41QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
42فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
English translationSo leave them to engage in their falsehood and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised;
70:42QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
43يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
English translationthe Day when they will rush out of their graves as if they are racing towards an idol[16],
70:43QuranEnc Rowwad 1.0.19
44خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
English translationwith their eyes downcast and overwhelmed with disgrace. That is the Day that they were promised.
